What are Xecunet's incoming and outgoing mail servers?
The incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) server names are both mail.xecu.net. If you are dialing into one of our national access numbers, you may need to use relay.xecu.net as your outgoing (SMTP) server.

Why can't I retrieve/send a large mail message?
E-mail was never intended to be used to transfer files, but is commonly used for this purpose. There can be problems transferring large files, and the larger the file, the greater chance of encountering a problem. As a result, it is common for many Internet Service Providers to limit the size of the files that can be transferred. These size limitations are different depending on the service provider. We allow message sizes up to 10 megabytes for both sending and receiving. This means you can send or receive a large attachment up to 10 MB only if the sender's ISP allows that size as well.

Why do I keep receiving the same mail messages over and over?
You may have a large or corrupt e-mail in your mailbox. This can cause the server to time out and not close your mailbox on the server properly. This will leave the messages you already downloaded on the server to be downloaded again. To fix this you can go to http://webmail.xecu.net, enter your e-mail address and password, and remove the large or corrupt e-mail message. You can also contact our support staff (877-932-8638) and have a technical support representative take care of this for you.

What is an alias?
An alias is an e-mail address that is forwarded to another e-mail address. The best way to explain this is by example. When an e-mail account is created on our system, it is set up with an @xecu.net e-mail address. In some instances it may need to receive e-mail from another domain, a good example, we have acquired a few additional domains and need to make the support e-mail addresses available for each. Rather than having each support e-mail address have its own e-mail box, the support@xecu.net address has an e-mail box and the other support addresses (support@fred.net, support@mip.net, support@totcon.com, support@clarksville.com ....) simply forward to support@xecu.net.

Why do I get disconnected from the Internet every time I open Outlook Express?
This is a very common problem. If you have recently sent a large e-mail to a friend or family member, your were given an option to Hang up after message has been sent. If this was selected, a permanent option within Outlook Express got turned on as well. This option will disconnect the Internet connection every time you send or receive e-mail. Since Outlook Express automatically sends and receives e-mail when it is opened, it will disconnect the Internet connection if this option is enabled.
To correct this problem, please follow the step-by-step instructions below.
- Open Outlook Express
- At the top of Outlook Express, click on Tools
- On this menu click the listing for Options
- The options window will open, and at the top of the options screen, click on the Connections tab
- Uncheck the box next to Hang up After Sending and Receiving
- Press the OK button.

I have Xecunet e-mail, but I connect with another service provider. I can't seem to send any e-mail. What am I doing wrong?
Your Internet Service Provider may require you to send through their mail server only. As a general rule, you should always send through your upstream provider's outgoing mail server, as many networks have rules prohibiting otherwise. If you are connected to a network that restricts which SMTP servers you can communicate with, you will need to use the Outgoing SMTP server provided by that network. Please contact them to obtain their server information.

I open my e-mail program and get this message: "The mail server pop3.norton.antivirus could not be found." What is wrong?
Norton Anti-Virus has a feature built into it that will scan incoming e-mails for viruses. However, sometimes this feature can cause problems as it will change your e-mail server settings automatically. You will need to go into your e-mail program (Outlook Express, Netscape, Eudora, etc.) and change your incoming mail servers back to the correct settings. The correct incoming mail server name should be mail.xecu.net, or it can also use the same domain as your e-mail address, such as mail.fred.net, mail.mip.net, mail.totcon.com, mail.clarksville.com and so on, as these are acceptable as well.
